More Fish, Nuts and Fruits Reduces Risk of Alzheimer’s
Alzheimer’s disease is a type of disorder in the brain. It is named after the scientist Alois Alzheimer who first described about this degenerative disease in the year 1906. Alzheimer’s is generally found in people who are more than 65 years old. The disease is often not curable.
Researchers have found that some combinations of nuts, fruits and fish help in reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Lightly cooked carrot and pumpkin, fresh fruits like red and black grapes, walnuts, dried dates, prunes and apricots are some of the recommended foods. However, excessive amount of butter, meat varieties like red or organ meats and certain dairy products containing a lot of fat can increase chances of contracting this mental disorder.
The conclusions of the recommended food items were based on certain dietary surveys conducted among more than 2,000 participants who above 65 years of age. It was found that salad dressings, poultry, tomatoes, nuts, fruits, fish and other nutritious green vegetables reduced the risk of the disease.
Other healthy foods that could help in preventing this disease are homemade yoghurt, oatmeal, whole grain breads and cereals, low fat pastas and tomato sauce. Canola and olive oil can be included in the diet sparingly. Salmon fish is also recommended. It can be consumed including both the fat and the skin. The fat in this fish is called EPA fat and it has the power to increase the HDL level. Alcohol, excessive salt, soft drinks, chocolate, hamburgers, hot dogs, high animal fat dishes and hydrogenated oils should be avoided.
